The condensation of each of twenty five 1, 3-diketones with diethyl acetonedicarboxylate was shown to be affected strongly by steric effect. Potassium carbonate better condensing agent than conventionally used sodium ethoxide. was shown to be a somewhat Unsubstituted 1 and 3-substituted acetylacetones can be brought into condensation with diethyl, 3-diketones acetonedicar-boxylate from very low to high yields whilst 3, 3-disubstituted acetylacetones are devoid of reaction except scission.

The ester exchange reactions of saturated aliphatic acid esters, unsaturated aliphatic acid esters and aromatic carboxlic acid esters with various alcohols catalyzed by ferric sulfate hydrate show that this catalyst is efficient and the yields are higher than those catalyzed by usual catalyst such as sulfuric acid.

Saporin-S6(SO-6) is a ribosome-inactivating protein purified from the seeds of. saponaria of-ficinalis. The conformation of the SO-6 molecule was studied by means of circular dichroism(CD) and fluorescence spectroscopy. The protein is stable in the range of pH 3-9.
