Thee adsorption of COand NOon copper ion-exchanged zeolite Beta was investigated using IRmethod. It was found that the thermalvacuum pretreatment procedure could result in the reduction of Cu
2+
ions in zeolite Beta. The adsorption of CO on Cu
+
sites in zeolite Beta closely follows Langmuir isotherm.Another Cu
+
species may form during the reaction between water and CO.The catalytic decomposition of NO on the zeolite was observed at room temperature, indicating that the decomposition reaction may occur between two coordinated NO ligands of the same dinitrosyhc complex.Furthermore, the appearance of two series of NO adsorption bands reveals that copper ions existing at different cation sites may have different effect on the adsorption and decomposition of NO molecules.

H NMR and elemental analysis, and the crystal structure of audition product 2c was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The mechanism of this reaction was also proposed.

The interaction of trivalent lanthanide ions and divalent calcium ions with sph- ngomyelm bilayer has been studied by FT-Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that the bonding of metal ions to the phosphate group of sphingomyelin bi-iayer,either La

or Ca
2+
did not change the conformation of the choline group, that is,O-C-C-N
+
is still in its gauche conformation. The presence of metal ions changed the states of the interfacial region from liquid-like to amorphous state and even to crystalline. They increased the fluidity of acyl chains of sphingomyelin bilaver and made them packed disorderly.

EHMO calculations and orbital analyses of fragments have been performed for the formation of oxygenates in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis on the butterfly model for four different metal (Ni,Ru,Rh,Pd) catalysts supported on SiO

.Calculations were made for the four processes,i.e.,CO-dissociation;Coupling of CO and Hto produce CHO;Insertion of CO to M-CH

On the basis of comparing the degree of CObonds activation and the energy barriers of the foregoing processes for these four catalysts,it is concluded that Ni/SiO

Investigations of 2,4-dimethyl-1,3-pentadiene by variable temperature FTIRspectra have concluded that the compound is a mixture of two kinds of single bond isomer,i.e.,s-traiis and s-cis conformers. The changes of IRband intensities have been recorded at research temperature range. The values of △H° and △S° between two stable conformers have been deduced to be 4.37 kJ/mol and 2.48 J/mol Krespectively.

Reported here are several new calculation methods for the inner-sphere reorganization energy of hydrated metal ions involved in electron transfer processes. It is based on the self-exchange model of reorganization and utilizes the more exact potential functions between central metal ion and the inner-sphere ligands. The parameters involved are determined via the spectroscopic and thermodynamic data. The predictions of the inner-sphere reorganization energies from those models agree well with the photoemission experimental results.

The thiol group of glutathione (GSH) reacts specifically with 2.4-di-m-trochlorobenzene to give S-substituted dinitrophenyl glutathione (GSH-S-DNP);two carboxyl groups of GSH-S-DNP were further esterified by n-butanol to produce the hapten, multisubstrate analog GSH-S-DNP Butyl Ester (GSH-S-DNP BE).The primary structure of the hapten was characterized by the free ammo group analysis,

H NMR,IRdeterminations and the elemental analysis. The hapten was then conjugated to bovine serum albumin (BSA) in the presence of glutaraldehyde. The reaction mixture was purified by Ultrogel AcA54 coluni chromatography to give the antigen. On an average,25 haptens were bound to each BSAmolecule.Electrophoresis analysis showed that the average molecular weight of the antigen was 87 KD.CDspectrum showed that the α-helix content of the antigen increased.
