Abstract: One-pot synthesis of nitriles from aldehydes with hydroxylamine hydrochloride was developed using [bmim][OTf] as the ionic liquid. The yield of benzonitrile was achieved to 97% at the temperature of 120 oC. [bmim][OTf] can be recovered and reused for this reaction. This method is simple and highly efficient, which makes it an attractive alternative.

Key words: Nitrile, Aldehyde, Hydroxylamine hydrochloride, Ionic liquid
