Abstract: An effective, hermitian hamiltonian is derived in amodel space. Its perturbation expressions to third order approximation are given. The correlation energy is also given to the third order approximation. The effective hamiltonian deviates form the actual one by the presence of acorrelation operator. The cprrelation operatop is given in an explicit form.
