Many natural products contain γ-lactone moieties.For example,β-methyl-γ-butyl-γ-lactones(quercus lactones) are gradients of aged whiskey,and β-methyl-γ-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-γ-lacione(eldanolide) is a pheromone of the African sugarcane borer.
